Terms of Service

Last updated September 10, 2026

Welcome to Canlip. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Canlip website, web application, and related services (together, the "Service"), operated by Canlip ("Canlip," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. What Canlip is — and isn't

Canlip is a tracking and notification platform for people pursuing Canadian immigration. It helps you track milestones along an admin-curated immigration pathway, tracks document expiry dates and sends renewal reminders, tracks physical presence toward citizenship eligibility, and uses AI-assisted research (see Section 5) to surface immigration programs and streams that may be relevant to your circumstances.

Canlip is not a law firm, does not provide legal advice, and is not a substitute for a licensed immigration lawyer or a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC). Canlip is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the Government of Canada or any provincial or territorial government. Nothing in the Service constitutes an application, submission, or representation to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) or any other government body. You remain solely responsible for your own immigration applications and for verifying eligibility requirements, deadlines, and program availability directly with official government sources before relying on them.

2. Eligibility and your account

You must be at least 18 years old to create a Canlip account. When you sign up, you agree to provide accurate, current information and to keep your account credentials confidential. You're responsible for all activity that happens under your account. If you believe your account has been accessed without authorization, contact us immediately (see Section 13). Canlip supports optional two-factor authentication, which we strongly recommend enabling given the sensitivity of the information you may store with us.

3. Subscription plans, trials, and billing

Canlip offers a Free plan and a paid Pro plan (a Premium plan is planned but not yet available). Every new subscriber automatically receives 14 days of Pro access starting at signup, with no card required. If you take no action, your account automatically reverts to the Free plan once the trial ends. Continuing on Pro after the trial requires an active paid subscription, billed through our payment processor, Stripe.

You may cancel a paid subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancelling stops future billing, but you keep Pro access through the remainder of the period you've already paid for, after which your account automatically reverts to Free. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable. We do not store your full payment card details — these are handled directly by Stripe under its own terms and privacy practices.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Provide false information about your identity or immigration circumstances when using the Service.
  • Attempt to access another subscriber's account or data, or interfere with the security of the Service.
  • Scrape, reverse-engineer, or use automated means to extract data from the Service.
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to submit content that is abusive, fraudulent, or infringes another person's rights.
  • Attempt to circumvent rate limits, usage caps, or tier-based feature restrictions.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, without prior notice where reasonably necessary to protect the Service or other users.

5. AI-generated pathway suggestions

Canlip uses an AI system (built on third-party large language model technology, with web search) to research and suggest immigration programs that may fit your stated circumstances. These suggestions are AI-generated and may contain mistakes, omissions, or outdated information — programs, fees, requirements, and processing times change, and the AI may not always catch that. Every AI-generated result is clearly labeled as such within the Service, and you are always able to request a review from a registered immigration consultant. You should independently confirm anything important against official government sources before acting on it, and treat AI-generated suggestions as a starting point for your own research, never as a final determination of your eligibility for any program.

6. Consultant messaging (Pro plan)

Pro-plan subscribers can message with a registered immigration consultant through the Service. Questions are automatically assigned to a consultant with available capacity. This feature is intended to provide general guidance and a human review of AI-generated suggestions — it is not a substitute for formally retaining a lawyer or RCIC to represent you in an immigration application, and using it does not, on its own, create a formal retainer or representation agreement with that consultant unless separately and explicitly agreed. Consultants featured through Canlip are independently responsible for the guidance they provide.

7. Your content

You retain ownership of the information you submit to Canlip (your intake answers, documents you track, messages you send). By submitting it, you grant Canlip a limited license to use it solely to operate and improve the Service for you — for example, to generate your pathway suggestions, send you reminders, and route your questions to a consultant. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your personal information.

8. Intellectual property

The Service itself — its design, software, branding, and underlying technology — is owned by Canlip or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or create derivative works of the Service except as necessary for your own personal, non-commercial use of it.

9. Third-party services

Canlip relies on third-party providers to operate — including Stripe for payments, Resend for transactional email, Google Cloud for hosting and data storage, and Anthropic for the AI models behind pathway research. Your use of the Service is also subject to the applicable terms of these providers where relevant. We choose providers carefully, but we are not responsible for outages or failures caused solely by a third-party provider outside our reasonable control.

10. Account deletion and termination

You may delete your account at any time from account settings, either immediately (after confirming this is permanent) or on a 7-day grace period you can cancel. We may also suspend or terminate your account for a violation of these Terms. Certain records — such as security logs and de-identified records of what was broadcast to you — may be retained after deletion as described in our Privacy Policy, where necessary for accountability, security, or legal compliance.

11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any AI-generated or admin-broadcast information is accurate, complete, or current. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Canlip and its officers, employees, and service providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including a lost or delayed immigration application, arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you through the Service or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing law and contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the applicable laws of the province in which Canlip operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
